Dear Ms Anonymous,
When you embark on the journey to discover your true self, your voice will become the only one you need to hear to make big life changes.
How often do you sit, and listen to your inner voice? I know a lot of people who would be terrified to really do that, because their inner monologue is so negative! Would you consider your self-talk to be positive or negative?
Can you motivate yourself to do hard things, even when you don’t know where to start? Have you taken some time to sit down and think about what is inside of you that just begs to come out, but you let the fear stop you from ever taking the first step?
Have you considered the voices that are around you, and how they may be the ones that are constantly beating you down, and making you feel like you’ll never succeed?
Try a podcast to motivate you
I listen to a podcast called Impact Theory (you can also subscribe on Youtube). Have you heard of it? It’s an interview series by Tom Bilyeu that explores the mindsets of the world’s highest achievers to learn their secrets of success. If you haven’t, subscribe TODAY through the link above! If you are looking for a weekly dose of motivation, you can’t beat it.
I recently watched the episode with Les Brown, a man whom Tom calls a “motivational preacher” (because you will be inspired by this guy’s story and captivated by the way he speaks!), who talks about everything that’s holding you back from achieving your greatest self. Watch the interview in the link below!
Les is a man who from the very start of his life had been dealt an unfavorable hand. He was born to a woman who could not take care of him. Fortunately for him and his twin brother, they were adopted by a single mother, a teacher, a woman who also struggled to give them an upper hand in life, but was determined to – No.Matter.What!
Hearing that resonated with me so much. You’ll remember I told you in my Redefining Me – Adventurous Blogger post that I’m not a give up type of person. I work really hard to achieve my goals. It’s not easy. Often it takes a lot of work, trying and failing before I find success.
Find a mentor to guide you
Here are some things I learned from my very brief 1 hour introduction to Les Brown:
- Get to know yourself! The true you. Not the inner critique that lives inside of your head telling you what you can’t do. Not the story that someone else imparted on your life, that you have now decided is yours. Listen to your intuition. Write down your dreams and goals. Write down your successes and failures. Discover: who am I? and who do I want to be?
- Transform your mindset. First things first, discover: what is my mindset? What is my attitude about life? Is it one that will bring me success, or one that will lead me down the path of not achieving what I want?
- Upgrade your associations and relationships. Discover: who should I count on? and who should I count out? Ask yourself: who’s pace have I adjusted to? Or am I the one setting the pace?
- Have goals outside of your comfort zone that challenge you. Discover: what do you want to accomplish with your life? Decide today to live a life that will outlive you!
- Have a mentor who’s been there and done that. Discover: who is in your circle that you can call when you need advice? Who are those people that have similar life philosophies to the one you have? What are you doing to learn more from your mentors? Are you attending conferences, reading their books, watching them on Youtube?
Take the time to discover you, it’s worth it
Here’s the thing about discovering who you are – it’s not going to happen overnight. It takes years of spending time learning about yourself, digging deeper into your beliefs, your values… and then adjusting, reconsidering, more learning, more digging, in order to become your true self.
It is a constant work of not letting the negative overpower you, building a positive story about yourself that can be refined through your experiences, and challenging yourself to achieve more every single day.
So, tell me, what are you going to do today to discover your true self? What is it that you can do that can impact someone else’s life? I can’t wait to read all about it.
With love,
